Join us for Third Shabbat learning in the Beit Midrash of The J's Arts & Education Building (upper level).
In the 1700's, after thousands of years of living as a largely separate, self-policing and self-educating community we entered a new world and new challenges to our identity and way of life. The Haskalah, or the Jewish Enlightenment marked the beginning of Jewish movements, of modern biblical scholarship in the Jewish world, and of determining for ourselves what it meant, or could mean to be a Jew in a world where it was suddenly a choice to be Jewish and where the Torah suddenly appeared to have multiple authors. Our Spiritual Leader, Cantor Joshua Finkel, leads us in looking into this rich time in Jewish history and explore its profound impact on the Judaism of today.
All are welcome to attend!
